Program Advisor & Defensive Training Coordinator, Pride Fastpitch

 

Coach Bill Edwards is a legendary figure in the sport of softball and serves as the Defensive Training Coordinator for Long Island Pride Fastpitch. Renowned for his transformative impact on the game, Edwards is best known for his remarkable 25-season tenure as the head coach of the Hofstra University softball team from 1990 to 2014.

 

During his time at Hofstra, Edwards established the program as a national powerhouse, consistently ranking among the top teams in NCAA Division I softball. He compiled an extraordinary career record of 928-419-3, making him one of the winningest coaches in NCAA Division I history. Under his leadership, Hofstra teams captured 18 conference championships across the North Atlantic, America East, and Colonial Athletic Association conferences. Edwards guided his teams to 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, including a groundbreaking run to the NCAA Super Regionals in 2012—the first in program history.

 

Known for his innovative coaching techniques, particularly in defensive strategies, Edwards has been a model of coaching excellence. Over the years, he mentored countless All-Americans and professional players, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in the sport as athletes and coaches. His reputation for player development and defensive expertise has made him one of the most respected leaders in softball.

 

Beyond his collegiate coaching career, Edwards has been a strong advocate for growing the game nationwide. He has conducted clinics, camps, and mentored aspiring coaches, sharing his knowledge and passion for the sport. His achievements earned him induction into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame in 2009. Additionally, he has received multiple Coach of the Year honors at both the regional and national levels.

 

Since retiring from collegiate coaching, Coach Edwards continues to shape the future of the game through his role with Long Island Pride Fastpitch. As the Defensive Training Coordinator, he not only develops young athletes and equips them with the skills and mindset needed for success but he guides and mentors the entire Pride coaching staff so that each athlete receives the highest level of training at all times. His unparalleled expertise, dedication, and legacy of excellence make him an integral part of the Long Island Pride Fastpitch organization and the broader softball community.
